Sustainability and Education: Toward A Sustainable Education Ruşen Meylani

In Sustainability and Education: Toward a Sustainable Education Model, Dr. Ruşen Meylani offers a compelling and timely exploration of education's indispensable role in achieving global sustainability. Written for educators, policymakers, and researchers, this book bridges ecological consciousness with pedagogical innovation, arguing that sustainability is not merely an environmental concern but a holistic framework encompassing justice, equity, and intergenerational responsibility. Through a careful synthesis of theory, policy, and practice, the work presents education as the transformative force that links climate action, social equity, and peace. Anchored in Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), it advances a model of learning that equips individuals and institutions to think systemically, act ethically, and lead with purpose in the Anthropocene.
Grounded in extensive scholarship and guided by moral clarity, this volume moves beyond abstract discourse to propose a Sustainable Education Model (SEM) that redefines the aims of modern education. Each chapter weaves together global frameworks, empirical studies, and visionary perspectives to illustrate how schools, universities, and communities can cultivate resilience, digital literacy, and sustainability competencies for an uncertain future. The author reminds readers that education is not only a right but also humanity's greatest responsibility one that must nurture both knowledge and conscience to secure a just, peaceful, and sustainable world.
