We Exist - Being Kurdish in Turkey Nurcan Baysal

Human rights defender, journalist and writer Nurcan Baysal’s “We Exist-Being Kurdish in Turkey”, has been published in English by SRC in March 2025,
WE EXIST is a compilation of Baysal’s writings from 2015 to 2021, focusing on a critical period for the Kurdish issue in Turkey: This most recent stretch of conflict had a devastating impact on the everyday life of Kurds, with repercussions still felt today. WE EXIST also discusses topics like education in the mother tongue, discrimination, racism and more, as Nurcan Baysal, from Diyarbakır and active in the region throughout this period, shares her observations, analysis and demand for real change.
As Turkey in recent months has embarked upon a new process of negotiations with representatives of Kurdish political movements, this broad, in-depth and comprehensive look at the most recent chapter in the Kurdish issue will provide a path into understanding the challenges that lie ahead.
