The bells in the church are ringing all day long because it is Christmas Eve in London. There are candles in the shop windows and you can see people walking quickly through the snowy streets. All the people have a special feeling for Christmas, except in one place.
In an office, with the name Scrooge and Marley, two men are working without smiles on their faces. There is a small fire in the fireplace. Ebenezer Scrooge, the owner, does not like to spend money. That's why the fire stays small every time. Scrooge thinks it is a waste of money to put more coal on the fire. His clerk, Bob Cratchit, is sitting at his desk writing letters. He is trying to keep his hands warm by the heat of his candle.
